Next Shoot at Sealand is on Sunday 8th September 2024
Llangollen Rifle & Pistol Club
(NRA Affiliation No C513)
Brief History
In 1942 Captain W E Thorp of the 9th Battalion (Ruthin) Denbighshire Home Guard (Royal Welsh Fusiliers) secured the use of a rifle range situated behind the Valley Crucis Abbey North of Llangollen.
The purpose was to train Home Guard Volunteers ,to be better suited in case of invasion,
where they could fire .303 Enfield rifles at a distance up to 200yds at half inch thick steel plates (Falling Plates)
or stationary silhouette targets as there were no other target facilities at the time.
The club was established in 1951, when local Fireman Wynn Roberts formed the club.
He became it's first Secretary. and took over the running of this range which continued until the lease ran out in the 70's.
The club has continued to be active throughout this period and up to the present day.
We are a small friendly club with members from all walks of life and a membership of around 48.
New members/beginners will be made most welcome.
Ranges
We regularly have shoots on MOD Full-Bore Ranges. One being Sealand, Chester, shooting up to 400yds. (Currently only at 100yds)
We try and get at least one shoot in each month with summer months it's two, but are subject to Military Cancellation.
Yes and we do shoot in all types of weather. Take a look at the picture section.
We also go to the National home of shooting at Bisley, throughout the year which enables us to shoot at distances of up to 1200yds and various other disciplines the most stimulating being the McQueens which involves shooting a small target at 200/300 yards which appears in various positions in a Castle shape for a 3 second exposure. For the longer range shooter we use the Orion Firearms Training facility where distances of up to 1800yds may be achieved.
